Charging and Converters
Cascadia Motion offers two charging/converter product lines:

The Combo Unit combines the functionality of an on-board charger (OBC) with that of a DC/DC converter. This allows the vehicle battery to be charged from an AC building/grid power source at a 6.6kW rate and the DC/DC portion provides a 14V output converted at up to a 1.2kW nominal (1.4kW max) rate from the high voltage battery. This keeps the vehicle’s low-voltage battery charged. The Combo Unit is water cooled by the vehicle’s coolant loop. This product is available in 400Vdc and 800Vdc versions.

The EVSE cable is a J1772 Type-1 Level-2 stationary charger that plugs into home or workplace 208-240VAC single-phase receptacles. This unit is equipped with a NEMA 14-50 plug, draws up to 32A and provides up to 7.5kW of charging power which is plenty to supply our Combo Unit.

NOTE: See “More Info” page for detail about J1772 charger communications.

Battery and BMS
Cascadia Motion has chosen to embrace a DIY approach of battery pack construction by offering building blocks that can be assembled into packs by the vehicle integrator. Note, there are substantial safety risks involved (both to person and property) with battery pack construction and this is best left to trained professionals.

The mini-module is built for maximum power density, being able to extract maximum performance (read: current draw at minimized voltage sag) from a small pack. This choice is well-suited for small vehicles and very high power densities.

A battery management system (BMS) system is offered so that electronics can keep a watchful eye over the battery modules.
